Recently Dick Marshall, the owner of Strang Heating & Electric in Richland Center, WI, had EarthLinked geothermal earth loops installed in anticipation for a complete system that will heat and cool a section of the shop, and provide a detailed performance report. The one-day earth loop install was done in a very compact area near the building.
Horizontally bored under the parking lot, the earth loop system will showcase the effectiveness of the entire EarthLinked Renewable Energy System even when installed in challenging locations. The loops are 125 feet long but still much shorter than a conventional water-based loop that would have been very difficult if not impossible to install within the available space. It only took a day for the boring company to install the loops and the connection to be completed.
Dick plans on unit startup soon but since the heating season is now upon us, Strang Heating & Electric is busy taking care of their customers’ needs first.
On a recent visit with Steve Kosbab of Meeker Cooperative in Litchfield, MN, I learned that their geothermal rebate program is now uncapped. This means that if you would normally qualify to receive a $400 rebate per ton of installed geothermal and the cap was $1,000, a 4-ton system would receive only $1,000. But now that the program is uncapped, you could receive the full $400 per ton for a whopping rebate of $1,600!
Steve is a great supporter of renewable energies and is thrilled about the new terms of the program. He and Meeker constantly strive to provide the best service to their members and the geothermal rebate program is just one of many things they do to help their customers improve the energy efficiency of their homes.
Don’t forget that there’s also a 30% federal tax credit available for geothermal systems installed before December 31, 2016. Learn more at http://www.earthlinked.com/tax-credit-info-and-rebates.
Minnesota approved installation of the first vertical geothermal loop on June 15, 2016 near Dassel, MN. After countless hours working with the state of Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) this lakefront home made their geothermal dreams come true. The homeowner wanted geothermal for their home for several years and water-source technology was out of the question as it would take up much more space to install the loop field. After meeting EarthLinked dealer, Dale’s Heating & Air Conditioning LLC they where able to show them how our products could make geothermal a reality.
With it’s established landscape and trees this lakefront property needed to be handled carefully as to not disturb the serenity of the area. Thankfully, the loop installers Bergerson Caswell, out of Maple Plains, MN made sure that minimal disruption occurred. Dave Needham, lead on the loop installation made sure once finished the landscape area was left as neat as possible.
Five inspectors from the MDH were onsite to make sure that all protocols were followed. The goal was to ensure Minnesota’s precious aquifer was protected and make any recommendations to this first vertical variance installation. Thankfully everyone was well prepared months before and everything went like clockwork.
The loop went in with minimal effort and landscape only requires a small amount of grass seed to be back to its previous state. No one would have guessed that anything like a geothermal system was installed here making this older home as energy efficient as possible with a EarthLinked system.
What will really surprise many people is the small footprint of the loop, measuring 21′ by 7′! We were able to install eight 75′ vertical loops for this 4-ton system to maximize the capabilities of the EarthLinked unit. The home will be a dual-fuel configuration with hydronic heating. The unit features our EarthLinked Diagnostic and Monitoring system (EDM) to make sure everything runs efficient and effectively as possible for the homeowner 24/7.

Sometimes we forget the people in the background that really run the day-to-day operations for a business. Cheryl LaMone at General Heating & AC in Shakopee, MN is one of them. I spent just over an hour with her this past Wednesday as we reviewed EarthLinked’s extremely simple ordering software. She had it down in minutes.
Cheryl is a multi-tasker for the company. She helps to keep the company owner, Rich MacAllister, more than busy with customer requests, job quotes, and all other tasks that support General Heating’s excellent record of customer service. Most likely Cherl’s voice will be the first you hear when you call. She even maintains the company website. Like any savvy business owner and their support team, Cheryl understands the importance of reaching out to customers who are looking online for reasonably priced heating and cooling systems, and competent companies to install them.
General Heating has been installing heat pumps for over 30 years and it’s no wonder their email address is [email protected]. They live and breathe heat pumps. You can also reach them at 952-445-2820.
Met with Dick Marshall, owner of Strang Heating & Electric in Richland Center, Wisconsin, on June 2 and he said they are going to install an EarthLinked Prime Series 3-ton unit in their office building.
He had been putting off installing a renewable system for the lower level of their office because of the large space requirement for water source loops. However, because the EarthLinked geothermal system has such a small footprint, they are moving ahead with the project and will bore horizontally under their company parking lot.
The installation is currently scheduled for July. Once we have a definitive date, we will post the time and location so anyone interested can watch the installation process and ask any questions they may have about an EarthLinked Geothermal Renewable Energy System for their own home or office.
On May 24 I traveled to Madison, WI to attend a roundtable meeting at the Wisconsin Geothermal Association. The meeting consisted of top geothermal companies, manufactures and engineers who gathered to discuss state efforts in bringing more geothermal industry to the state.
Informative presentations on the state’s ongoing efforts now and into the future were made and were well attended by many decision makers from the industry.
Met with Rich MacAllister, the owner of General Heating & Air Conditioning in Shakopee, Minnesota. Rich is traveling all the way up to Aitken, MN to do a installation for a customer who wants the best system and contractor. Well they found him.
To my knowledge, Rich’s money-back guarantee on installations cannot be matched by anyone else in the entire state. That is how good General Heating is and how dedicated Rich is to make sure that every installation is perfect.
That was one of the reasons we met today–Rich wanted to assure that we didn’t miss anything for an upcoming installation. I look forward to visiting the job site to experience first-hand the craftsmanship of his team. Should be exciting to watch.
